These pretty stud earrings have been inspired by summer wildlife, and form part of my HoneyBee collection. They feature a lovely sunflower design which has been impressed into a nugget of recycled sterling silver. The impression has a wonderfully detailed texture which really brings the image to life. These stud earrings are perfect for everyday wear, and would make a particularly lovely gift for any keen gardener or nature lover.

How I make your Sunflower Imprint Studs

Each sunflower impression is produced individually me in my studio; there’s no mass production going on here! Firstly I melt down an ingot of sterling silver using the offcuts I keep from other projects. Then I press the shape using an impression die and a hydraulic press. For the larger pieces this could be repeated 4 or 5 times before I’m totally happy with the depth and detail of the print, annealing the metal between each stage. Once I think I’ve got the perfect print, I file away the excess material and smooth the edges then solder a sterling silver ear post to the back. The impression gets a light oxidising to really make the details pop before the whole thing gets a final polish. And voila!
