Earrings for Nature Lovers

These pretty dangly earrings have been inspired by nature’s superheroes, and feature a brass bee on a sterling silver ‘honeycomb’ link. The bee design has been impressed into a nugget of recycled brass and soldered onto a hand formed silver hexagon which has been gently hammered for texture. They hang from hand formed silver ear wires with a twisted stem. The earrings have a lovely dangle whilst being super lightweight and very easy to wear.

How I make your Bee Imprint Earrings

Each bee impression is produced individually me in my studio; there’s no mass production going on here! Firstly I melt down an ingot of brass using the offcuts I keep from other projects. Then I press the shape using an impression die and a hydraulic press. For the larger pieces this could be repeated 4 or 5 times before I’m totally happy with the depth and detail of the print, annealing the metal between each stage. Once I think I’ve got the perfect print, I file away the excess material and smooth the edges. The hexagonal links are made from sterling silver which I first make into a circular ring before reshaping and lightly hammering for texture. The two are then soldered together before attaching the hand formed ear wires. The impression gets a light oxidising to really make the details pop before the whole thing gets a final polish. And voila!
